Interview With "Governator Insane"

New Interview with a brazilian stoner metal Band

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?
Formed in 2012 by Merln Oliveira, Lucas Lacerda, Aldrin Salles e Felipe Bianco, the GOVERNATOR INSANE is a band with a heavy and dense sonority with elements of Stoner Rock, Grunge, Heavy Metal and Southern Rock.
We just went to the studio and played the bands we liked back in 2012 and our songs just flowed, in about three months we had already composed our first EP. Lucas left the band and Ernane took his place in the Guitars, then we started recording our first EP, called “N!”. Before the recordings were finished, Ernane left the band too.
Today, Governator Insane has Felipe Bianco and Rodrigo Salles on the guitars, Aldrin Salles on the Drums and me (Merlin Oliveira) on the Bass and Vocals. Now, we are almost two years on the road, playing all around our state, here in Brazil.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music?
Well, I’m the main songwriter, I usually write about the things that are around me everyday, you know? You turn on your computer and access any website, the news are all the same: Religious Wars, People dying, people killing, the political leaders stealing and lying. I usually write about my problems with myself too, hahaha.

3. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
As a band it was mostly Black Sabbath, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Kyuss, Red Fang, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. As musicians, we have a lot of different influences

4. What made you guys decide to form a band?
We were always in other bands, we just decided to form a band that would REALLY be a band! We always dreamt of being musicians and we formed a band in wich all of the members share this dream

5. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?
I think it’s awesome! You guys are doing a nice job sharing the material of the bands!

6. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? Like Metalcore/ deathcore
Well, we don’t really care about this, but if people need to rate and classify the band in these labels, ok

7. When not doing things with the band, what can you guys be seen doing?
Drinking, hahahaha, getting stoned, it’s something we pretty much like to do. We have other jobs too, but nothing special.

8. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?
I like it, it’s not the 70’s, but I like it. There are some fucking great bands, like Mastodon, Baroness, Down, A Pale Horse Named Death, I think that metal is always changing, if you don’t keep your mind open you’ll always hate everything that’s different.  I keep my mind open, there are a lot of bands that I don’t like but that’s ok, they’re doing their jobs and bringing the youth to metal

9. How did you guys come up with your band name?
We wanted a name that synthetizes all of our ideals about politics, religion, society and stuff. What could possibly be better than a dead leader that rises from the grave to rule the world? That’s how we feel about those things, the past keeps coming back and controlling the future, that’s the real insanity.

10) What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
We are working on our next album, lot of new songs, lot of gigs. I guess that the fans will like what’s coming. More stoner, more Southern, heavier and denser.
