interview with "MISTEYES"

New interview with Italian Melodeath/Gothic band

1. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Sure! The band was born in 2012 by Daniele (guitars), Riccardo (guitars) and Federico (drums). Despite a lot of line-up changes, Daniele and Riccardo started working at the first songs, that took shape soon and , with the entry of Edoardo (growl/scream vocals) and Matteo (bass) the band could start working. With this line-up, on 31th October 2013 the band released the first single "Brains In A Vat". 2014 was a year of changes: the band officially announced the entry of Denise (clean vocals) and Gabriele (keyboards), meanwhile Matteo left the band and he was immediately replaced with the bass player Andrea. With this new line up, the band starts working to their debut album, titled "Creeping Time". A first demo track "Lady Loneliness" was released in October 2014.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music?

Our song lyrics are deeply connected with our music and they are generally reflections and considerations about the human condition! We have lyrics about fear, solitude and philosophy! In many of our songs we deal with the theme of "time", seen from different points of view! For this reason we decided to pick "Creeping Time" as the title of our debut album!

3. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

We try to make our own music, but obviously each member of the band has his own influences and our music is the result of the mix of them! We can say we try to combine the gothic and symphonic music of Epica, After Forever and Nightwish with some more extreme stuff with influences from Cradle of Filth, Septicflesh, Dimmu Borgir, Death and Dark Tranquillity and a touch of the more melancholic and doom music of Draconian and Candlemass.

4. What made you guys decide to form a band?

The idea started by the two guitarists Riccardo and Daniele! When they met, they immediately understood they had many musical tastes in common and they wanted to express it with a musical project, after that both had some delusions in their previous bands.

5. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?

It's very good! We are an underground metal band and for us, as for the many other underground bands like us, every site, person or page posting our songs is a very good way to let other people know our music!

6. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? Like metalcore/deathcore, ...

We don't care much about it! We make the music we want and we like without thinking about classification! However, for the listeners may be both a good or a bad thing! Nowadays there are a lot of bands and classifications can be really useful for a listener to find out easily the kind of music he/she likes. On the other hand, it can create a lot of confusion, as no classification will never perfectly fit one band!

7. When not doing things with the band, what can you guys be seen doing?

We don't live with our music, so every member has other occupations! Some of us are working and others (Edoardo, Daniele, Gabriele and Federico) are still studying!

8. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?

It depends from the point of view! Globally there are lot of new bands which are really good! But in the underground scene is different and, talking about here in Italy, unfortunately the current state is not so good!

9. How did you guys come up with your band name?

The name "Misteyes" was an idea of our guitarist Riccardo that came to his mind while he was looking to a misty landscape! Everyone in the band immediately liked it, 'cause it perfectly evokes the style of our songs! It represents the human condition: we are always surrounded by a mist that hides us the truth and that can't let us go beyond the physical reality of things.

10. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

We have a lot of news for the near future! First of all, we are recording our first album "Creeping Time" and we are going to release it in the second half of 2015! Then we want to promote it with an intense live activity, maybe a videoclip and other stuff that we will announce soon! Stay tuned!
